Rececca Perry Ceramic Exhibition
Courtney Gallery, Ashbourne. 14-28 Sept 2021
Our 2019 Young Emerging Artist award winner, ceramicist Rebecca Perry, will be exhibiting at St John Street Gallery and Cafe, Ashbourne, from the 14th-30th of September 2021. This sponsored exhibition is part of her Young Emerging Artisan award, having been delayed from 2020 dues to covid.
She will have a new collection on display of slip cast and slab-built earthenware vessels.
Rebecca’s ceramic practice is driven by expressive drawing, with the abstract marks influenced by abandoned spaces and graffitied walls. She observes the urban and rural landscapes and is particularly interested in the juxtaposition between organic matter and manmade surfaces. The bold strokes of paint with scratched markings relate to her own two-dimensional mark making and the energetic abstract painting method that she has developed. These impressions then become gestural, as she makes the surface to a vehicle for her drawings.
The exhibition runs frim 14th – 28th September and the gallery is open 10am – 4pm Tuesday to Saturday
