Natasha Braithwaite

Traditional black and white film photography and darkroom printing inspired by land and sea.

Biography

A photographer and darkroom printer, Natasha is drawn to both the land and the sea and is inspired by the ways in which the fall of light picks out the tones, textures and contrasts inherent within that landscape as well as the relationship that exists between the land and the sky.

Natasha works with black and white film and all work is hand printed utilising traditional techniques and materials; working with film and traditional light sensitive papers is creative and can sometimes be unpredictable, continued work and experimentation serves to increase both her knowledge and understanding of the light sensitive materials with which she works. All work is individually printed and one final print is produced from each negative.

In addition to her photography Natasha experiments with alternative photographic processes producing both cyanotypes and photograms; these processes originated in the mid 1800’s at the very beginnings of photography and are created without the use of a camera.
