Zaza Lewis
Contemporary artworks combining colourful fabrics with hand-cut black card.
Biography
I am a mixed media artist who had been exploring textile art in various forms for many years. Back in 2017 I began experimenting with fabrics and hand-cut black paper to see if I liked the results. Surprisingly, this unique new creative process was a revelation and totally suited my graphic style.
Most subjects I illustrate are based on locations I visit and document. They might be sketched, photographed and referenced so I can work on them back in my studio in Derby.
I was born and raised in the South-West of France near the Atlantic coast and has lived in Derbyshire since the age of 18. You will see both my French roots and my adopted country reflected in my work.
Since 2018, I have been awarded 5 prizes in total, achieved by submitting work in Winter or Summer art exhibitions nationwide. The most recent one was in Ashbourne Summer Exhibition in June 2025.
