Penny Withers

The inspiration behind my thrown and altered, stoneware pots is the connection between ceramics and natural landscapes.

Biography

Penny Withers is a Sheffield based ceramist with a studio at Yorkshire Artspace. She has a degree in Fine Art from West Surrey College of Art in Farnham and a post-graduate certificate in education. She curated the Sheffield Ceramics exhibition – Shaping the Earth – at the Millennium Galleries in 2016 and has been instrumental in setting up the no smoke wood kiln at Manor Lodge. She is also a mentor and technical advisor on the YA ltd Graduate Start-up Scheme.

Her work, which is sold through several UK galleries and an interior design company, is always in demand. Stoneware vessels explore the velocity of throwing and the residual energy in the finished piece; surfaces are enhanced with atmospheric combinations of glaze evoking landscapes.
