Michela Griffith – ‘Of Wood and Water’

Michela’s new exhibition opens at The Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton in April.

Michela Griffith is following her debut solo exhibition at the Joe Cornish Galleries in Northallerton with a second solo exhibition, ‘Of Wood and Water’ this exhibition will preview on Saturday 14 April from 1.00pm; the preview will include an artist’s talk and Q&A featuring On Landscape’s Tim Parkin.

Following on from 2015 ‘Streamscapes’ which celebrated the beauty and diversity of water in motion, Michela has “…continued my dialogue with the river. Water has changed the way that I view my camera – rather than being a box that records the landscape, it is a tool that lends itself to creative interpretations …. Water is still the focus of my photography, but recently I’ve been finding new ways to photograph the trees along the river bank as much as the water itself. This has carried over into my exploration of woodland, and my interrogation of individual trees.”

‘Of Wood and Water’ is the culmination of three years of work encompassing both the Peak District near Michela’s home and North Yorkshire. Michela’s work is her own personal interpretation of the water and the trees that inhabit the banks of the rivers she explores with her camera. The work on display will not only reflect the different seasons but also the curiosity that water has inspired in Michela’s practice, the water has fundamentally changed her way of seeing and she now views the land with a different perspective while continuing to develop her distinctive style.

‘Of Wood and Water’ previews on 14th April and will run until 22nd May; the Joe Cornish gallery in Northallerton is open every Monday – Saturday between 9.00am – 5.00pm.
