Lettering artist’s owl raises £8,000 for Big Hoot

Lettering artist, Elizabeth Forrest’s contribution to this year’s Big Hoot has raised a fantastic £8,000 for charity.

One of our Chesterfield based members was selected from hundreds of applicants to take part in Birmingham’s biggest ever mass-participation, public art event.

The high-impact, public art exhibition featured large-scale, individually designed and decorated 165cm tall owl sculptures. Wild in Art worked with Birmingham partners to create a new sculpture for the city; the owl had been chosen as the quirky canvas for Birmingham’s exceptionally creative community.

The owls stunningly decorated by artists and community groups and generously sponsored by local businesses, took up perch right across Birmingham for 10 weeks during the summer, followed by an auction to raise significant funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Speaking about the project, Elizabeth said: I was delighted to have been chosen to take part in The Big Hoot, but when I heard how much money my own had raised I was thrilled, it was a lovely project to work on offering a unique and exciting opportunity for artists to work in partnership with local businesses, charities, schools and community groups.
