Manchester in Vogue;
Solo show by Rob Wilson at Contemporary Six
The Gallery, Unit 6, The Royal Exchange Arcade, Manchester. 18 October – 3 November.

Vogue has always been associated with high end fashion, but award winning artist Rob Wilson is using vogue patterns in his highly creative mixed-media paintings for his one man show at Contemporary Six-The Gallery from 18 October to 3 November.

Rob’s unique method of combining paint and print sees him using a variety of printed matter. As well as Vogue sewing patterns, he also uses pages from programmes, brochures and leaflets, which often relate to the subject matter of the painting. Layers & texture are built up with paint, printed matter and tissue paper, and then after the painting is dry, Rob adds lines of embroidery detail and these bring the painting to life.

Alex Reuben of Contemporary Six says:

“Rob’s work has a visual complexity, his love and knowledge of architecture enables him to depict in detail iconic Manchester and Salford landmarks. His work captures the energy and vibrancy of these two cities, the beauty of their iconic buildings, the people who live and work there and the famous weather! But these works are not gloomy cityscapes; the paintings are alive with colour and detail.

“Rob’s work generates a great deal of interest, his work is recognised not only for its beauty and quality but as an investment, with his commissions being in a number of private collections. This show highlights Rob’s viewpoint and skill which make him a very collectable artist”.

The Show is sponsored by patent and trade mark attorneys, Appleyard Lees, and Baker Tilly.

Graham Johnson, partner at Appleyard Lees, said: “Rob Wilson brings real energy and vibrancy to his work. We are thrilled to support such a rising star in the art world, who takes inspiration from our great Northern cities.
